Nursing Licensing Gets More Intense
Starting in 2013 I read that there will be further education required for nurses. I am not sure if this will also apply to CNA training too, but I do know that the level of care my Grandmother gets at the nursing facility we placed her in is not up to par. Will this change the cost of care?
I hope that this furthering of education and requiring of a college degree will help weed out the bad people. There are just way too many nurses aides who have come from jail or other places that do not need to be working with these old folks.
Since this change doesn’t take effect for a while, I think that people who are wanting to get a nursing job should consider whether its going to be worth it for them. the last time I went to the hospital and was treated for my bone condition, the nurses seemed abrupt and almost in a hurry. I can understand that they may be understaffed, but their job can’t always be treated as a job.
I think part of the problem too has to do with the fact that they work them for so many hours at a time. You can’t just work someone until they are drained. 12-14 hour shifts will cause anyone to start under performing at their job. So i guess it is also a blame on the employer.
I just hope that the requirements and extra training will allow the nursing field to get better and more responsible with their duties. It may not change for the certified nursing assistant, but maybe the nursing staff will be more strict on them and help them to be trained better on the job.
