Summary of Guardians of M365 Governance Ep.31

In Episode 31 of the Guardians of M365 Governance monthly webcast, my co-hosts Ragnar Heil (@RagnarH), Joy Apple (@JoyOfSharePoint), and I are joined by Lisa Vanderlip, Managing Principal at WyseMinds and an expert in Enterprise AI and Technology Value Realization, to discuss how organizations can move beyond Copilot adoption and start measuring actual business value. Training, prompt-a-thons, champions programs, and usage metrics all have a role, but as Lisa repeatedly asks throughout the conversation: “So what?” More prompts and active users may demonstrate engagement, but they don’t tell you whether AI is making employees more effective, improving a business process, or helping the organization achieve measurable outcomes.

We also dig into the productivity trap. Saving hours sounds impressive, but the real question is what happens with that saved time. Lisa argues that organizations need to connect AI initiatives to specific business goals and KPIs, with clear ownership and accountability for the results. That becomes even more important as AI moves toward consumption-based pricing, where advanced models, agents, and Copilot credits introduce measurable costs for individual scenarios. Suddenly, determining whether “the juice is worth the squeeze” becomes both a value realization and governance question.

Finally, we explore why the prompt-a-thon was valuable, but ultimately just training wheels. AI literacy and experimentation help people understand what is possible, but organizations eventually need to move from knowledge to ability to value. Lisa suggests evolving prompt-a-thons into scenario-a-thons focused on real business problems and measurable outcomes, while bringing back some familiar disciplines such as requirements gathering, business cases, and working backward from the desired result. The goal isn’t simply getting more people to use AI. It’s making sure that what they’re doing with it actually matters.
