February 2020 Content Wrap-Up

Wrapping up Microsoft 365 Friday 2020And here we are at the start of another month! First off, on February 3rd I celebrated my blog’s 16th birthday! Technically, I started 2 years earlier (Spring 2002) but was not able to migrate that content over to this one when it launched in April 2004. But it’s pretty incredible to think that some version of this site has been alive that long, and is searchable through the right nav (be sure to check out the archives). Another major milestone this month was our 9th year of running our SharePoint Saturday Utah event, which I helped launch back in 2011. We made some changes this year — moving the event from Saturday to Friday, and re-branding it as Microsoft 365 Friday to better represent the full range of topics being covered. Our regular attendees are aware that from a content perspective, we have always had a variety of Microsoft technologies represented, but over the past couple years especially, we heard too often that new people didn’t think to attend because they “don’t work with SharePoint much anymore.” So this year, we had a SharePoint track, a Microsoft Teams track, an Azure track, a Power Platform track, and more….and we doubled our numbers. Watch for #M365Friday 2021 next February!

With that, here is the list of publicly-available content that was published this past month:

My session from M365 Friday Utah 2020M365 Friday Utah and MUGUT

As mentioned, the M365 Friday event was a huge success, and we plan to return to SLCC in early February 2021 to do it all again. I had one session on “Understanding Tasks End-to-End” which I have not yet published, as I will be conducting a webinar and this same session again in March, and I am continuing to tweak my content for these. However, my intent is to publish as an eBook with plenty of links, to become a resource for all-things task related in the Microsoft ecosystem. Watch for that.

In the meantime, the Microsoft User Group Utah (#MUGUT) was pleased to have two MVPs join us virtually to present on some of their current favorite topics. More of these webinars coming in March!

Interviews

I had a few folks reschedule their interviews, but hope to have a strong lineup for March with both MVPs and Microsoft product team members. Also included here is the panel I conducted from the main stage at #ESPC19 in Prague in December on the topic of “Making Microsoft Teams the “Hub” for Productivity in Your Organization.” Sitting on this panel were MVPs Cameron Dwyer (@CameronDwyer), Maarten Eekels (@maarteneekels), Jeff Willinger (@jwillie), Sue Hanley (@susanhanley), and Tracy Van der Schyff (@tracyvds). And btw, in case you were wondering, in that video I was wearing my Kingdom of Loathing t-shirt. Totally forgot about that. So unprofessional.

Productivity Tips

So many productivity tips, so little time. I was joined once again by my good friend and fellow productivitarian Tom Duff (@duffbert) on the digital stage for another head-to-head bout during which we shared 10 new productivity tips. Tom won the battle (yet again) in this, our 19th webinar. I’ll get him next time. I’ve also been going through all of the tips I’ve shared over the past 3 years and have been expanding on each, providing an updated extended-play tip for each. I’m actually thinking about these long-form tips as I create my deck for the next bout, and will have my latest entries in blog form before the next round.

Task Management TweetJam

February 2020 #CollabTalk TweetJam on Task ManagementI had been wanting to cover the topic of task management for a long time, but when I floated the idea, people just didn’t seem excited about it. I finally added it to the calendar anyway, and was pleased to have such a tremendous response to participate on the panel, and in the responses during the event. With post-event feedback, we hit well over 2 million impressions and 112k profiles with 374 tweets. Not bad for one hour! As a follow up, I was joined by fellow MVP Darrell Webster (@darrellaas) who joined both the tweetjam and this livestream in the wee early hours from Auckland, New Zealand. Thanks Darrell!

Articles

As promised last month, I’m continuing to write on topics not attached to a client, a webinar, an event, or any other defined campaign. Yes, these are articles on topics that interest me. I’ve been going through the hundreds of unfinished tabs within OneNote and writing about things that interest me, like migrations, project management, governance, information architecture, innovation and leadership. All good stuff, and more to come!

Client Articles

A few more posts went live from active clients, but you’ll see this ramped up a bit more in March.

  • Don’t Miss These Upcoming EUM Webinars [EUM]
  • Developing a Modern Application Strategy [LinkedIn]
  • The Low-Code Developer Path [LinkedIn]
  • Simplify Your Deployment [WEBCON]
  • Build Once, Deploy Evernywhere [WEBCON]

Promotional Activities

And finally, some self-promotion — and #MUGUT activities:

I plan to continue with the daily posts through March, and plan to finish plugging any holes within my #MVPbuzzChat interview series by completing (and then back-dating) any missing blog posts to promote the already-published YouTube videos and Soundcloud podcasts. Additionally, I am participating in a couple webinars as a speaker, and will host more webinars with fellow MVPs — both for the #MUGUT as well as for EUM.co, so watch this space for more news.

March also means that I’ll be traveling to Redmond, Washington to participate in another Microsoft MVP Summit on campus. I would not miss this event for the world — it’s the best perk as an MVP. Despite all of the concerns over the Coronavirus, I’m looking forward to seeing friends from around the world and learning more about the various product roadmaps from the Microsoft teams. For those attending, see you in two weeks!
