Promoting Alan1 (again)
After posting a couple weeks back about the new remix of The Silver Chair by musician and SharePoint-community friend Keith Richie (@krichie), I decided to promote a couple more Alan1 studio recordings to YouTube. As a quick recap, Alan1 was a home studio project in collaboration with former Microsoft teammate and good friend Mike Watson (@jmikewatson) before he escaped the Seattle area about a decade ago.
And for those that don’t recognize the band name, in the original Tron movie it was the name of Tron’s user (creator), Alan Bradley (played by Bruce Boxlietner). So there.
The first song/video uploaded was (She Is) Luminous, a synth-heavy dream-pop-esque number that Mike and I recorded on a rainy afternoon at my house in Duvall, Washington. We did not have a sequencer, and so the beats are not in sync with the modulating synth, but I loved the asynchronous texture that it created.
The second song’s origin was actually from my daughter Audrey, who came up with a repeating synth layer to go along with a bassline that I had concocted. The song No Words (No Memory) was also recorded on a rainy afternoon, but we’re talking about the Seattle region, so no surprises there. I had some additional lyrics (now lost) but liked the simplistic test vocals of my first vocals attempt, and nixed later recordings.
I plan to upload a couple more songs from this series in the coming weeks…if I can can locate the WAV files.
And for those of you who can’t be bothered to click an additional link but really want to hear the Keith Richie remix of The Silver Chair, here you go:
