Copilot + OneDrive = Smarter File Productivity
Attention Microsoft 365 users! Microsoft’s Copilot is now integrated into OneDrive for web and GA (generally available), bringing AI-powered assistance directly into your file storage. Available to Microsoft 365 Personal, Family, Work, and School users, Copilot in OneDrive helps you extract insights, summarize content, and manage files without opening them. The result: less time hunting through documents, more time actually getting things done.
What Is Copilot in OneDrive?
Copilot in OneDrive acts as your on-demand assistant for files stored in the cloud. It can summarize long documents, compare different versions, answer questions about content, and even help generate new material. Whether you’re prepping for a meeting, reviewing resumes, or catching up on a project, Copilot makes interacting with your files faster and easier.
Key Features and Use Cases
- Summarize Documents Copilot can quickly distill the main points of any document—or up to five at once—saving you from reading through dense reports or dusty old files. It’s ideal for reviewing project briefs, contracts, or long PDFs when you’re short on time.
- Compare Files Need to spot the differences between versions of a proposal or multiple job applications? Copilot lets you select up to five files and lays out a side-by-side comparison in a clear table. This works well for contract analysis, financial reports, version tracking, and more.
- Ask Questions in Chat Have a file with important info, but no time to read it? Just ask Copilot. You can query a lease agreement for key dates, pull ingredients from a recipe, or check figures in a spreadsheet. It’s like having search built into your own documents.
- Jumpstart Content Creation Stuck staring at a blank page? Copilot can use files you already have in OneDrive to help you draft proposals, FAQs, outlines, or slide decks. Select your reference files, ask for suggestions, and Copilot pulls relevant info to get you started.
- Find Files Using Natural Language Forget keywords and folders. You can ask Copilot things like “Show me recent files on Project Orion” or “What should I read to get up to speed on the marketing launch?” and it will surface the most relevant files.
