Join the SharePoint Hackathon 2025

SharePoint HackathonThe SharePoint Hackathon 2025 officially kicks off this week! Running from March 3rd to March 17th, this exciting event is a chance for SharePoint users of all skill levels to showcase their creativity, problem-solving skills, and technical expertise. Whether you’re an end user, designer, IT admin, or developer, there’s a place for you in this hackathon.

One of the most valuable aspects of events like this is the power of community. By participating, you’re not only sharing your knowledge but also learning from others, gaining new insights into how SharePoint can be leveraged in innovative ways. Community-driven collaboration helps us adopt new technology faster, discover creative solutions, and develop a deeper understanding of what is truly possible. This hackathon is an opportunity to connect, contribute, and expand your perspective on how SharePoint can transform the way we work.

What is the SharePoint Hackathon?

The SharePoint Hackathon is all about storytelling through video. Instead of submitting a fully coded solution, participants will create a 1-8 minute video showcasing how they are using SharePoint’s latest features. The goal is to inspire innovation and highlight real-world applications of SharePoint technology. If you’re interested in participating, be sure to check out the Official Rules.

Four Hackathon Categories

Participants can submit their videos in any of these four categories:

  1. SharePoint Agents
Launched at Ignite 2024, SharePoint Agents leverage AI to enhance content discovery and automation. This category is all about demonstrating how AI-driven agents can improve workflows, document management, or knowledge-sharing. Example: A SharePoint Agent that answers FAQs based on company documentation, reducing the workload on customer support teams.
  2. Out-of-the-Box SharePoint Portal Designs
With new flexible layouts, editorial cards, and branding options, SharePoint has never been more customizable. This category focuses on designing beautiful and highly functional portals using only out-of-the-box SharePoint features. Example: A team site or division portal that enhances communication and collaboration.
  3. Viva Connections Dashboards
Viva Connections is transforming employee engagement by bringing personalized dashboards to SharePoint and Microsoft Teams. Participants in this category will create dashboards that deliver relevant content and tools to employees. Example: A retail dashboard displaying sales targets and schedules for store associates.
  4. SharePoint Framework (SPFx) Solutions
For developers looking to extend SharePoint’s capabilities, SPFx allows for custom integrations, AI-powered enhancements, and external data connections. Example: A custom SPFx web part that integrates AI-powered analytics into a SharePoint dashboard.
