Microsoft Ready for the Next Big Step

From the Washingtonpost.com:

Microsoft Corp. launched its first computer operating system in five years Thursday, contending that the software and other new products will help people deal with information overload and become more productive.

Acknowledging Windows Vista’s delays, Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer kicked off a demonstration of the software by saying “it’s an exciting thing to finally be here” and adding: “This is the biggest launch in our company’s history, that’s for sure.”

So where do we go from here? I expected to see some land grabs and power plays once these major releases were out the door, but, surprisingly, so far things have been fairly quiet. I am looking forward to participating in the upcoming ThinkWeek to share some ideas I have around the enterprise Software-as-a-Service opportunity for SharePoint. I hope to share some of my thoughts here soon, but for now I am trying to keep things under wraps.
