Prague, Czech Republic
In a rare escape, I was able to spend a couple days off the clock and visit friends while on an otherwise jam-packed business trip. After spending a week in Las Vegas for the SharePoint Connections Conference followed by a week in Berlin, Germany for the TechEd Europe conference, I left my colleagues behind and took the train south to Prague to visit some good friends who are living abroad for a year or so. Spence and Heather Darrington are from my home town in the Seattle area, but Spence’s job with Microsoft gave him the opportunity to live in Prague for a year or so to help build out an operations center for the company.
Spence and Heather have six bright and active kids (the older two of which were at one time a couple of my cub scouts), and it was great to be able to spend time with the family, see a few of the sights of the city, and get crushed on the Wii by a 4 year-old (although I took her previously unbeaten boxing title). I’ve compiled some of the photos from the trip, as well as some videos of this amazing city and fun with the kids. I really hope to be able to get back to the Czech Republic someday – with my wife and kids – and spend more time exploring this incredibly beautiful and historically rich country. Two days are just not enough.
Thank you Spence and Heather for allowing me to crash for a night, and we hope to see you home again at the end of next summer. However, if you decide to extend your time abroad, I will most definitely make an effort to come back out your way! (this time with Kendal, possibly a kid or two)
