Involving End Users in Migration Planning
I’ll be back in the Boston area next week, and while there will be leading a webcast on Thursday, January 27th from 11:45 to 1pm EST, hosted by local partner Grace-Hunt, called ‘Strategies for Involving End Users in Your Migration.’ The session is based on an article I wrote for SharePointPro Connections called ‘When and How to Include End Users in SharePoint Migration Planning’ and is a continuation on the string of articles I’ve been writing here, on the Axceler blog, and for NothingButSharePoint around the need for thoughtful planning around any SharePoint migration – and how Axceler’s migration products can help with that planning.
A quick synopsis of the event:
One of the biggest mistakes made during environment migrations is to make this a dev or administrator activity, and not involve the end users – who know the data and business needs better than anyone. The purpose of this session is to outline a structured migration plan, and illustrate where and how end users should be involved in the process. Attendees will walk away with ideas on how they can improve their migration planning, ensuring the new environment includes direct input from their end users, which will increase adoption rates and improve SharePoint effectiveness.
The session is positioned to the Admins and IT Pros who own the SharePoint deployment, but is also a great session for PMs and Business Analysts who play a part in planning. Not involving end users in the planning and design of a SharePoint environment is a huge mistake. This session provides a roadmap for including end users – when and how. Audience level is 100-200, with strong emphasis on project management and governance.
This is an open event that you can watch from the security of your own home or office, so please register. Or you can catch me in person presenting this topic – and two other sessions – at the upcoming SharePoint Tech Conference (SPTechCon) in San Francisco in early February. Looking forward to visiting the Bay Area again!
