Share Your story, win a Pass to #SPC14

As some folks are aware, harmon.ie is sponsoring a contest in which they’re looking for stories where cloud or mobile solutions have caused problems within your IT organization, or across your company. Maybe individuals in your company (you don’t have to admit to anything yourself) used imagean “unsupported” app that wreaked havoc within your system. Or maybe people on your team used a cloud service like DropBox, Google Drive, or Box to store secure documents outside of the company firewall, and somehow the data was lost or compromised. Possibly a person was sharing sensitive customer data or key intellectual property across Hotmail or Gmail, or one of the consumer-based instant messaging platforms from Yahoo or AOL. These are the kinds of stories harmon.ie wants to hear!

harmon.ie is sponsoring this contest to help highlight their research around the impacts of “rogue IT” practices, which you can read more about here, or in a prior blog post that I wrote called Consumers Are the Backseat Drivers of the Enterprise. For full disclosure – I am one of six judges for the contest, which is why I have been helping to promote this event. And I can tell you, some of the entries are real doozies, going against all common sense. But we want more stories where the bring-your-own-device (BYOD) model went astray, and where time, money, and/or intellectual property was lost.

I’ve run across many people over the past couple years who have shared stories that fit here – and now I’m trying to get people to come out of their shells (anonymously) and share their experiences. My guess is that most people have a story to share.

I encourage you to share your story. The form is short and quick, and once again — it is anonymous.

Share your story, and you can win a pass to the SharePoint Conference in Las Vegas next March, or, if you’d prefer, win yourself a nice new Samsung Galaxy 4.

Looking forward to hearing your stories, and feeling your pain.
