From MVA Studios: SharePoint Online Migration Planning

Delivering multi-session training is very different from presenting a 75-minute session at a conference. For those in the community, you know what I am talking about. A 75-minute session sounds like a long talk, but when you add in questions from the audience and stories and experiences, that 75 minutes can fly by. Of course, this was a cakewalk compared to giving a week-long training session (which I was doing regularly back in 2003-2004 while consulting for HP).

Last week I was able to deliver two training session with GTconsult co-founder and COO Craig Tarr (@craig_tarr) for Microsoft Virtual Academy (MVA), and today the first of those sessions was made available through Microsoft’s Channel 9 (@ch9). The session “SharePoint Online Migration Planning” was recorded in 5 modules, which you can watch individually here:

The content should soon show up on the MVA site, as well, for people with memberships who may be interested. Look for a couple call outs to Erica Toelle, too! And here’s the session abstract:

Considering cloud strategy? We all know that the migration process has never been point-and-click. But for the majority of organizations, a migration strategy is central to their cloud plans: content to be moved, configurations and applications to be rebuilt or refactored, structure and taxonomy to be updated, and governance and administration policies and procedures to be realigned for hybrid or pure cloud models.
In this session, get SharePoint Online migration insight and practical tips, geared toward content stakeholders and project teams. Explore the major differences in strategies when moving on-premises to on-premises, versus on-premises to cloud, and everything in between.

The second session we recorded, which also runs across five modules, was content on the management differences between SharePoint On Prem and SharePoint Online, focusing primarily on SPO. Both are 200-level sessions that explain the options available to managers, and provide ample guidance around planning and governance. I hope people find them helpful.

This afternoon I was back over at the MVA studios to record a third session – this one across 8 modules – discussing Yammer administration and power user best practices. Joining me on camera was John Westworth (@palymoth) from Microsoft’s  much heralded Customer Success Management (CSM) team. I’ll be honest: I talked a lot. I tend to do that, especially when it comes to the topic of social. But it was a good interaction, we had fun, and I think that organizations and individuals will find the content useful as they start to explore Yammer and their broader social strategy.

I’ll post the links to sessions 2 and 3 as soon as I see them come online!
