SharePoint Realignment with Hub Sites
One of the more exciting announcements to come out of the Microsoft Ignite conference last month in Orlando — at least from a SharePoint perspective — was the new SharePoint Hub Sites capability. One of the frustrating activities of any SharePoint Admin is the almost constant state of change to an environment as organizations shift and change, sometimes requiring a complete re-wiring of navigation and permissions to keep a SharePoint environment functioning as these changes occur. The new Hub Sites capability will vastly improve this process, creating a top-level hub site collection which acts as the connector for other disparate site collections. For example, you might create a hub site as your top-level company site, and then link your departmental sites (HR, Engineering, Product, etc) as child connections. The children automatically inherit the navigation, look and feel, and permission structure of the hub, making SharePoint reorganization a breeze.
In the next #CollabTalk tweetjam, we’ll discuss the importance of these new hub sites, some of the outstanding administrative and governance questions they raise, and how these new features may impact SharePoint usage, in general. Join us on Thursday, October 26th from 8am to 9am Pacific as we discuss “Realign with SharePoint Hub Sites” via Twitter and the #CollabTalk hashtag. Come participate with our amazing panel of MVPs, solution providers, and community influencers and join in on yet another great online discussion!
These online discussions are open to anyone — you do not have to be on the panel to participate, but can login to Twitter and join the conversation at any time! Just remember to use the #CollabTalk hashtag, or join through our dedicated tweetjam site at http://twubs.com/CollabTalk. This month’s tweetjam is once again being sponsored by our good friends at tyGraph.
If you have never participated in one of these tweetjams, it’s pretty simple: anyone can jump in and share their thoughts, or just lurk in the wings and absorb the wisdom of the crowd. Either way, it’ll be a TON of content to consume in a single hour. You can follow the live session using the Twitter UI of your choice (Twitter.com, Hootsuite, Tweetdeck, Twubs, whatever). How it works is that I’ll post a series of questions every few minutes, and people will respond to Q1, Q2, Q3 and so forth with A1, A2, A3, always including the #CollabTalk hashtag with their answers. Feel free to reply as often (or as little) as you’d like, ask your own follow up questions, share relevant links, re-tweet others, and engage with the audience.
The questions we will discuss during this month’s tweetjam include:
- How do you expect to leverage SharePoint Hub Sites?
- How will Hub Sites affect your SharePoint site architecture?
- With the modern site templates, do you expect to see strong SharePoint growth?
- What will be the impact of Hub Sites to taxonomy and metadata planning?
- How should organizations approach existing and future sub sites?
- Do admin roles change because of Hub Sites?
- Do you see any security, compliance, or permissions issues due to Hub Sites?
Of course, there will be side-questions, side-conversations, and wise-cracking throughout. This is open to the public, so please join in the discussion! The dialog is usually thought-provoking but also fun.
