Speaker Spotlight for #SPC18
Here we are closing in on the end of March, and what seemed so far in the future at the end of May — the SharePoint Conference North America — is rapidly approaching. Of course, I have at least 2 events in between now and Las Vegas, traveling to DC next week for SharePointFest, and then down to Auckland, New Zealand the first week in May for the Digital Workplace Conference. But much of the focus of the North American market, and the SharePoint community, will very soon turn to Las Vegas and #SPC18.
I’m excited to speak again this year, as well as to help promote the event through the creation of the “Road to @SPConf” and “Speaker Spotlight” video series. While some of my fellow speakers and MVPs were very serious in their videos, I attempted to lighten things up by including several wardrobe changes in my own Speaker Spotlight video. Check it out:
For those planning to attend the event in May, I’ll be presenting two sessions, as well as running 3 tweetjams from the community area, and participating in a number of other Community Reporter and community discussions and activities. It is going to be a jam-packed week!
My two sessions include:
How to Better Leverage SharePoint Through Microsoft Teams
While Office 365 adoption continues to grow, some organizations are struggling to understand how to move past the traditional SharePoint and intranet-centric view of the world, and truly leverage all of the latest and greatest technology Microsoft has to offer. For example, Microsoft Teams is a new way to focus on collaboration and communication, giving project teams and individuals the flexible features they need to get work done, while providing administrators with the security and governance controls required by the business.
Attendees will get an overview of Office 365 Groups and Microsoft Teams, and learn how they interact with SharePoint. We’ll provision a new Group, discuss what happens behind the scenes as multiple workloads are established, and then walk through the productivity and extensibility features of Microsoft Teams when used with SharePoint that will undoubtedly have an immediate effect on your employee adoption and engagement.
While this session is geared towards organizations who use SharePoint today and want to understand how they can leverage both SharePoint AND Microsoft Teams, everyone is encouraged to attend!

Navigating the Inner and Outer Loops: Effective Office 365 Communications
With the breadth of communication and collaboration solutions available through the Microsoft stack and partner community, many organizations are having a difficult time understanding which tool to use when — which impacts end user adoption, and overall success of your environment. In this session, MVP Christian Buckley will help attendees understand the broader strategy around Office 365 Groups and the Microsoft Graph to tie together all of the workloads within Office 365 (and beyond).
Session objectives include:
- Translating Microsoft’s inner and outer loop messaging
- Outlining the roles and goals of each Office 365 workload, including SharePoint, Outlook, Yammer, OneDrive, and Microsoft Teams
- Walking through various enterprise examples, with real-world product scenarios and best practices that can be applied immediately
