The Six Tenets of Productivity

Conference magazine from ESPC18At last year’s European SharePoint, Office 365, and Azure Conference (#ESPC18) in Copenhagen, I was privileged to have an article included within the official conference magazine, which you can read and download as a PDF. As you probably guessed from the blog post, the article is entitled “The 6 Tenets of Productivity” and draws upon my almost 30-years of experience deploying enterprise software, especially collaboration and productivity solutions, and trying to impact lasting change within organizations. The age-old problem is that most organizations tend to spend their time and effort on the technical deployment of new technology, and rarely spend the time on the adoption and engagement issues required to realize the full benefits of that technology.

If you follow me on Twitter (@buckleyplanet) or LinkedIn, you may have seen one of my tweets via a new micro-podcast platform on iOS called Chirp (formerly known as Lookwide), which enables its members to create under-2-minute micro-podcasts. The app is being updated rapidly with new features, and will soon (I hope) provide users with the ability to quickly build a playlist of favorite experts and authors and play their “chirps” in succession….but for right now you need to navigate via their app to find new content, and listen one by one.

Upon my return from Copenhagen, I created 6 chirps around my conference magazine article, and expanded a bit more on each topic. The beauty of the format is that you can be confident that none of the posts will drag on and on…as they are all capped off at 2 minutes. Brevity can be a good thing…and admittedly is something I need to work on in both presentations and articles. This format forces content creators to stay focused. And as I say that, I’m also planning to expand upon each in the coming months (Brevity? What’s that?) and create an ebook prior to the SharePoint Conference North America (@SPconf) that I’ll make available as a free download (i.e. no lead gen form in front of it), so watch for that. (btw, register for SPCNA using BUCKLEY and get $50 off)

If you are interested in hearing the micro-podcasts and/or trying out the Chirp app, here are each of the 6 tenets:

  1. Clear definition of work
  2. Information classification and management
  3. Automation
  4. Discoverability
  5. Social interaction
  6. Change management
