CollabTalk Podcast at #MSIgnite: How to become an MVP or RD
Leading up to the Microsoft Ignite conference, I had two topics selected for recording at the Podcast Center in the Hub (expo hall), but was able to fill two additional openings during the week — and was invited to participate in a 5th podcast, as well. In this first recording, I was joined by some of my fellow MVPs and RDs to discuss “How to become a Microsoft MVP or RD” and share some of our personal stories on how we earned these awards. Additionally, we spent a good portion of the discussion talking about the feedback/mentoring we provide to others who are working hard, giving back to the community, and who are (in our opinions) on the path to becoming an MVP or RD.
One of the goals of this discussion was to dispel some of the misinformation about what it takes to become an MVP or RD. For example, we talk about how there is no set path or “checklist” to earning the status. While the process is a bit of a black box, the reasoning is that there are a variety of community activities that can earn the awards, from blogging and videos, to writing books and speaking at conferences, or even through heavy participation in community message boards. The consensus from the panel is that regardless of your MVP or RD status, giving your time and energy to the community will benefit you both personally and professionally.
