Microsoft Community Office Hours, Episode 51
For our 51st episode this week of the “Microsoft Community Office Hours” series, I was joined by Sean McDonough, MVP (@spmcdonough), Hal Hostetler, MVP (@TVWizard), Mike Nelson, MVP (@MikeNelsonIO), community expert Shari Oswald (@shortcutshari), and Microsoft’s Neil Hodgkinson (@nellymo) for another panel discussion shared via live stream in the M365 Community on Facebook, and simulcast on Twitter, LinkedIn, and YouTube.
In this episode, we covered the following topics:
- Message Center Updates [6:20]
- Thoughts on the Exchange hack in the news [22:44]
- Neil shares an update on his homework looking into whether Mover and other OOTB migration tools can perform “full-fidelity” migrations [26:43]
- I upgraded from Office 2010 to Office 365, but my appointments are not appearing on my calendar. [29:31]
- What do you recommend for task management in Microsoft 365? Links for creating task lists (here and here) [32:31]
- When converting SharePoint sites to modern, is the best approach is to start a new site? And is the “Move” function adequate for this? [36:19]
- Why can’t I get my bookmarks from the new Edge browser to sync to Edge on my iPad? [39:13]
- I am trying to set up Outlook and migrate from Gmail, why does my inbox on Outlook look different from the one I have in Gmail? [41:59]
- Is it possible to get Azure AD users custom/extension properties using Microsoft Graph API? [47:32]
- I was told that SharePoint does not support anonymous access to a site because it no longer supports web-facing sites. Does this mean it’s just no good at it, or does it literally mean that you can no longer build a site or a PowerApp solution and share it via the Internet with anon users? [48:49]
- What are your suggestions for someone who is coming from LibreOffice to quickly learn Microsoft 365? [50:37]
- If I delete a Team by accident, everything will be gone. Is there a way to back up all of the channels? [52:53]
- Is anyone else having issues creating a Microsoft list from Excel? The only solution I could make work was to create a list by importing a spreadsheet to an on-prem environment using IE (yuck) and copying the resulting list to the tenant using a 3rd party migration tool. [58:59]
- Is there a way to copy all the Teams chat history to OneNote or OneDrive while using a Teams exploratory license? [1:03:03]
- Is there any way for SharePoint to block views based on SP group within SPO – without using 3rd party tools? [1:05:35]
- I just installed SharePoint 2016 and am trying to run PowerShell commands and am getting errors running the pssnapin. Apparently, they haven’t been registered. How do I register them? (try Add-PSSnapin Microsoft.SharePoint.PowerShell) [1:08:22]
- To quote the great Kylie Minogue: “I’m spinning around…” still! Yep, still going around in circles trying to get required privileges in Teams. Can somebody clarify if I understand this correctly? Is a group site basically a supercharged Teams site based on a Teams template? I start at the tenant’s parent level with a Teams site or Group site, can I only then create subsites based on the ugly Teams template? It seems to me that if I start at the parent level with a Communication template site, I can create subsites with either the Teams template or the Communications template. Is that right? [1:11:44]
- How do you restrict Teams members from accessing group recordings on the channel? [1:21:21]
- We’re in the process of deploying Teams throughout our company and want to be able to use it to run status reports and track monthly goals. Is there a feature already embedded that can do this? [1:23:39]
- I would like to create a company scorecard to keep track the weekly goals and performance. Each department should manage their own data, but we also want to consolidate to one company dashboard. Should I use Lists or another solution? [1:26:00]
- We have macros in Excel that allows users to send emails from the Excel sheet itself, and we have thousands of these sheets. If I need to change the SMTP mail or anything in the macro, it can be very tedious. Is there is a script or 3rd party app that can do that? [1:27:16]
