Is there a Governance Gap with the Power Platform?
Microsoft’s Power Platform (consisting of Power BI, Power Apps, Power Automate, and Power Virtual Agents) and the community around it is growing at an incredible pace. As more organizations adopt these intuitive tools to automate business processes, generate reports, and build apps and chatbots, the question becomes: How much governance is needed for Power Platform solutions? With hundreds of apps, reports, and flows across an organization, are there processes in place to give individuals a foundation for long-term success? Is there oversight and auditing to ensure that sensitive information is being protected, and compliance guidelines are being met?
In the next #CollabTalk TweetJam taking place on Tuesday, November 22nd at 9am PDT (UTC -7), the community will once again join forces and have a focused discussion on the topic of “Oversight and Governance of the Power Platform” and the clear need for management of Power Platform activities within the enterprise. In this 1-hour Twitter-based panel discussion, we’ll bring together MVPs and Regional Directors, community experts, partners, consultants, and practitioners to share their perspectives on this important topic.
Anyone can join this community discussion using Twitter and the #CollabTalk hashtag or your favorite Twitter platform. You don’t even need to be an “expert” to participate in the online conversation. Anyone can ask questions, comment on the questions posed, or just “lurk” in the background. These online discussions are open to anyone — you do not have to be on the panel to participate.

If you have never participated in one of these tweetjams, it’s pretty simple: anyone can jump in and share their thoughts, or just lurk in the wings and absorb the wisdom of the crowd. Either way, it’ll be a TON of content to consume in a single hour. You can follow the live session using the Twitter UI of your choice (Twitter.com, Hootsuite, Tweetdeck, whatever). How it works is that I’ll post a series of questions every few minutes, and people will respond to Q1, Q2, Q3 and so forth with A1, A2, A3, always including the #CollabTalk hashtag with their answers. Feel free to reply as often (or as little) as you’d like, ask your own follow-up questions, share relevant links, re-tweet others, and engage with the audience.
The questions we will discuss during the session include:
- How important is it to have a governance strategy in place before employees start building Power Platform solutions?
- Is there a preferred methodology or framework for Power Platform governance?
- What are your best practices for monitoring, auditing, securing, and managing the lifecycle of Power Platform solutions?
- Specifically around security, how important are tenant and environmental Data Loss Prevention (DLP) policies in Power Platform governance?
- Why should organizations leverage the Power Platform Center of Excellence (CoE) starter kit?
- How important is it to support the Power Platform community (citizen developers, makers, and champions) within your organization?
- What other governance advice would you give to an organization that is starting its Power Platform journey?
