Blue Plate Special: Daniel Ash
Since being introduced to the bands Bauhaus and Tones on Tail back in 1983, I have been a fan of Daniel Ash. Picking up the guitar at age 15, he famously only learned three chords before playing in his first couple of bands alongside childhood friends Kevin (drums) and David J. (bass) Haskins, and later joining forces with Peter Murphy (vocals). While I liked the “dark glam” sound of Bauhaus, I was always more drawn to Daniel’s first side project, Tones on Tail, and then the more commercially-successful Love and Rockets. After releasing the first of 5 solo studio albums, Daniel reunited with bandmates in both Love and Rockets and Bauhaus for tours and new material over the years, and eventually brought back Tones on Tail in the form of Poptone, which included Kevin Haskins revisiting his role on drums and Haskin’s daughter Dive Dompe (Kevin’s daughter) on bass instead of former bassist Glenn Campling.
