Blue Plate Special: Easy
Another discount CD bin find, I picked up Easy’s first album, “Magic Seed,” around 1995-1996 because of its interesting cover, the fact that it was produced by John Fryer, and because it was on the Mute label. I later found a couple of remixes and versions on various Mute Records compilations.
While the world was moving toward grunge in the early 90’s, bands like Jesus and Mary Chain, Lush, The Charlatans, Stone Roses, and Swedish band Easy were generating excellent (and underappreciated) music that was more melodic and sometimes reminiscent of the 60’s psychedelic movement. After a few albums, Easy broke up, but reformed in 2010 and continue to create new music, with a new album “A Signal in the Clouds” released in 2023.
Some of my favorites:
Cloud Chamber – from the album Magic Seed (1990)
Crystal Waves – from the album Radical Innocence (2020)
I Can Tell You Why – from the album A Heartbeat From Eternity (2017)
Kiss Kiss – from the album Satellites (2005)
