Blue Plate Special: Djuma Soundsystem
Norwegian DJ and producer Mikkas, or as he is more widely known, “Djuma Soundsystem,” has been a prolific force in the global electronic music scene, beyond his popular track “Les Djinns.” While Djuma Soundsystem initially began as a duo, Mikkas has successfully maintained the brand’s signature sound as a solo act for several years now, seamlessly blending disco, house, and techno. He expertly crafts instrumental pieces that feel more like emotive, vocal-free songs than just DJ tools or grooves. The result? A collection of irresistible yet underground tunes that can both electrify festival crowds and captivate intimate club scenes.
Djuma Soundsystem’s music has echoed through renowned venues like The End in London, Space in Ibiza, and Blue Frog in Mumbai, as well as acclaimed festivals such as Fusion in Germany, Roskilde in Denmark, and Exit in Serbia. A memorable highlight was his electrifying performance to about a million people at Baha beach in Rio on New Year’s Eve 2009.
