How can I make managing SharePoint permissions more scalable? #M365AMA

In this episode, the #M365AMA panel discusses the following community question:

“I’m setting up a SharePoint environment for a diverse team, including external collaborators. It’s crucial to maintain strict control over who has access to what. What’s the most effective way to manage user permissions in SharePoint without overwhelming the admin team and while ensuring data security?”

Some relevant notes/links shared by the team:

  • One best practice is to train your Site Owners to manage their own sites/permissions rather than rely on centralized management (except for oversite). Of course, this requires good architecture, permissions training, and (recommended) some expert support (hire someone to show you how to do it).
  • Check out 3rd party tools, like Rencore, Orchestry, AvePoint, etc.
