May 2024 Content Wrap-Up

Checking in at the M365 Community ConferenceMay kicked off on the road in Orlando, where I attended the M365 Community Conference and spent the week, for the most part, with the Rencore team in the expo hall. Overall, it was a really good event with tons of great conversations about M365 governance. With so much focus on Copilot, people (finally) seem to understand that an important aspect of Copilot Readiness is cleaning up their content, permissions, and overall security. As I often share, my experience in running governance bodies and getting on the soapbox to preach the governance good word began in the late 1990’s. Jumping forward, my very first presentation on SharePoint was a governance-related topic at Microsoft’s internal Ready conference back in 2006. After leaving Microsoft, I got involved in community events, speaking at SharePoint Saturdays and other events around the world, where a constant theme in my sessions was governance. While the governance themes and best practices have been around for years (decades), people’s understanding has matured around what is needed to prepare for and efficiently use the latest technology. It’s great to see that.

Looking back over the past month, extracurricular activities included a Rencore webinar with good friend and former MVP, Brian Alderman (@MicroTechPoint) on “Complexity to clarity: Driving adoption through governance,” moderating another TekkiGurus webinar with fellow MVP Shari Oswald (@ShortcutShari) entitled “Declutter Your Digital Space: Spring Cleaning Your Inbox,” and co-hosting Episode 5 of the Guardians of M365 Governance live stream alongside MVP Ragnar Heil (@ragnarh) and our guest, MVP Joy Apple (@JoyOfSharePoint). And, of course, all of the podcast interviews, #MVPbuzzChat interviews, and AMA’s that I publish every month, with a few random articles thrown in for good measure.

Next week I’ll be in Seattle for 3 days for the TechCon365 event, so if you’re planning to attend, please swing on by and say hello to me in the Rencore booth. Other than that, no other event plans (as of today) until the Power Platform Community Conference in September in Las Vegas, and then ESPC in December in Stockholm. I’m sure that I’ll add a couple more events this year, but as of right now, that’s the whole kit and kaboodle. But don’t worry, there are more digital activities being planned. Keep reading…

As for last month’s digital output, here’s what was published in May:

Talking about Digital Empathy

Digital empathy refers to the ability to understand and share the feelings and experiences of others in online or digital environments. As a society, we have some significant shortcomings in this space. I’ve started a conversation and hope to have people share their own experiences and suggestions on how we can all improve our personal and company cultural empathy. Share your feedback!

Microsoft 365 Governance

As I mentioned above, governance continues to be a major part of my professional persona…and there is more coming this month! I have a few things in the hopper, including announcements about a new partnership and the launch of new services, Copilot and M365 Readiness programs, and more content. We’re not quite yet ready to announce things, but it should all land before the end of June, so keep watching this space!

Interviews

As always, my #MVPbuzzChat interviews are published every Monday (I need to start using #MVPMonday), with the CollabTalk Podcast published every Thursday. If you are not yet following this blog, I encourage you to subscribe AND follow me on YouTube as I increasingly generate video assets for most of what you find on this blog. I get it – some people like to read, some people like to listen, and others want to watch their content. So why not all three?

#M365AMA series

For May, I published 12 new M365 Ask-Me-Anything recordings based on questions asked on various community sites. We’re planning (tentatively) to record yet another 90-minute live version of the #M365AMA show this month or next, in case you’re interested. And if you have a M365 product question that you’d like the panel of experts to tackle, please comment! And if you’re looking for past AMA’s on a specific product, check out my YouTube site where I’ve arranged playlists by product. For example, there are currently 120 questions answered about Teams, 89 for SharePoint, 62 for Exchange, and so forth. Check them out!

Content Strategy

I’ve been working on a detailed content strategy ebook for more than a year now, and plan to compile of of the related articles into a single digital asset this summer (when I have time, as always).

Blatant Self-Promotion

And, as always, I conclude my May contributions with links to my blatant self-promotional articles, including reaching 1,000 blog posts in 1,000 days on my current goal of blogging daily for 3 years. After that, I’m unsure if I’ll continue the pace, but I’m committed for now.

  • 1,000 posts in 1,000 days [blog]
  • April 2024 Content Wrap-Up [blog]

And that’s a wrap on content from May! More of the same in June, plus the launch of new consulting and training services, a press release or two, and a new weekly (!) live stream with fellow RD+MVP Sharon Weaver (@sharoneweaver) where we’ll be sharing stories, best practices, and what not to do in the project management world. Really looking forward to this new series, which launches June 3rd with an introductory live stream at 9am Pacific. Keep watching my social channels for a link, and hope to see you there!
