Can I remove chat history for one person in a group chat? #M365AMA

In this episode, the #M365AMA panel discusses the following community question:

“Does anyone know of a way possibly using MS Teams Powershell to remove the chat history of a group chat for one individual only who was accidently added to a chat? In this case – the individual was accidently added then removed but appears by doing this they still have access to the chat history. In looking at retention policy aspects appears it’s only possibly to remove all the chat history of an individual which isn’t what I need. I need to remove the users chat history from a single group chat they were accidently added to.”

Some relevant notes/links shared by the team:

  • In Microsoft Teams, you cannot delete the chat history for just one person in a group chat. When you delete a group chat, it is removed from your view but remains accessible to other participants unless they also delete it. Deleting the chat only removes it from your chat list, while others can still see the history. Additionally, you cannot delete individual messages from specific people in the group. To completely remove your own access to the chat history, you must delete the entire group chat.
