Summary of Guardians of M365 Governance Episode 9
For Episode 9 of the Guardians of M365 Governance monthly webcast, Ragnar Heil (@ragnarh) and I (fellow co-host Joy was unable to join the live show) welcomed our guest, Melinda Morales (/IN/melindamorales/), Head of Collaboration at Dyson in the UK, to discuss “Making Governance Scalable Across a Global Company” and explore the complexities organizations face when implementing governance at scale, especially in large enterprises. She shared some of her team’s best practices, such as emphasizing the importance of blending governance with practical solutions for people, rather than relying solely on tools. She shared insights from her experience focusing on community-driven governance, ensuring that employees are empowered while maintaining guardrails to keep operations secure.
One key challenge addressed is the difficulty of managing governance across multiple tenants and departments, which can often lead to overwhelming workloads for IT and governance teams. The conversation also touched on the role of emerging technologies, particularly Copilot and AI, in improving governance processes. All three of us expressed hope that AI-driven tools will help alleviate some governance burdens by automating routine tasks and streamlining communication across different tenants and calendars.
The podcast concluded by highlighting how organizations are moving toward a balance of autonomy and control, allowing employees to experiment with tools like Power Platform, while ensuring that proper governance measures are in place. The need for a cross-organizational approach to governance, which includes input from legal, compliance, and security teams, is also emphasized. This holistic approach is crucial for managing the rapid pace of technological change while maintaining a secure and productive work environment.
