Blue Plate Special: We Have Band

We Have Band, known affectionately as WHB, is a three-piece electronic ensemble that merges the creative forces of Darren Bancroft with the husband-and-wife duo Thomas and Dede Wegg-Prosser. Their journey in music began in the bustling scenes of Manchester and London, quickly distinguishing themselves within the indie electronic circuit. Their distinct sound is a blend of sharp disco beats and melancholic synths, creating what has been dubbed as “depressive disco.” By combining live instruments such as guitars and drum machines with synthetic sounds, they crafted the iconic tracks that formed their debut album, ‘WHB’, released in 2010 through Naïve Records, a French indie label.

Rising from their early days remixing tracks for high-profile bands like Gorillaz and Bloc Party, WHB made their mark with exhilarating live performances across notable venues and festivals. From the gritty club stages to the expansive fields of Glastonbury, their live shows became legendary for their energy and engagement, winning them the Glastonbury Festival emerging band competition in 2009. This intense touring schedule not only solidified their reputation as must-see live performers but also deeply influenced their sound and artistic evolution. By 2012, they had released their second album ‘Ternion’, exploring deeper, more introspective themes, further showcasing their growth as artists both in studio craftsmanship and lyrical depth.

Beyond their music, We Have Band’s influence extended into popular culture with their tracks featuring in various commercials and TV shows, embedding their tunes into the broader public consciousness. Their innovative approach to music and performance continues to inspire a dedicated fan base, eager for the trio’s explorations of sound and emotion. As they prepare for new projects, We Have Band remains a dynamic force in the electronic music scene, constantly evolving while staying true to the experimental roots that first defined their unique sound.
