January 2025 Content Wrap-Up

A busy month, but a difficult week. For those who don’t follow me on social, my dog Taco passed away this week, leaving a big hole in our family. Thank you to everyone who has reached out. It has been much appreciated. My thoughts keep going back to early last month while I was in Sweden for ESPC when a fellow speaker got a call from his family that their family dog had passed away, and how difficult that must have been to be an ocean apart during that difficult time. I am grateful that my wife and I were both home and with him when he passed.

Taco BuckleyWith shoulder surgery the previous month, there was no travel in January, but plenty of online activity – with several articles written in December and scheduled for publication when I knew I would be less active. I’m doing the oh-so-much-fun twice weekly physical therapy visits, and am quickly on the mend. Online activities included a tweetjam on productivity and panel discussion, following the new model for the CollabTalk TweetJam which I also wrote about. The Guardians crew welcomed fellow MVP and CEO of Orchestry Software, Michal Pisarek, for a great governance discussion. And, of course, there were weekly Project Failure Files, CollabTalk Podcasts, and MVP interviews as part of the #MVPbuzzChat series.

No major travel plans for February, either. Heading south for a few days in Arizona to visit our son, daughter-inlaw, and grandson, but no in-person events planned. I’m gearing up for Spring events, heading to Seattle (Redmond) in March for the MVP and RD Summits, Denver in April for Comms vNext, Las Vegas in May for the M365 Conference, and then back to Seattle for Techcon365 in June.

Here is the content that was published in January:

CollabTalk Podcast

Weekly episodes published every Thursday, focusing on what makes collaboration work (or fail) and how to improve it. Some great guests this past month, and the podcast seems to be growing quickly. If you’ve not yet watched or listened, take a look and let me know what you think!

Project Failure Files

Weekly episodes that are live or published every Monday morning at 9am Pacific, with fellow MVP and RD Sharon Weaver (@sharoneweaver) and I discussing all-things project, operational, and product management.

  • Project Failure Files: Bad Estimate and No Plan (Ep.30) [blog | YouTube]
  • Project Failure Files: Ignoring Risk and Strategy (Ep.31) [blog | YouTube]
  • Project Failure Files: Ignoring the Reality of Resource Constraints (Ep.32) [blog | YouTube]
  • Project Failure Files: Whether to Build or Buy (Ep.33) [blog | YouTube]

CollabTalk TweetJam

Some changes to how I am running these monthly tweetjams, as outlined in the Refactoring article below. I’m back in the monthly schedule for this series, with more emphasis around the panel discussion and subsequent videos (long-form and shorts) promotions. If you have an idea for a topic, and would like information about sponsoring one of these events, please reach out.

Articles

For those keeping track, I paused posting the M365AMA videos and posts here so that there was more room for articles, but I am behind schedule on launching the new M365AMA.com website. I have about 2 dozen videos ready for post-production, and hope to get the site live within the next 2 months. I miss recording those segments, so watch for more of that content in the spring!
