The Circuit Dominion is Now Available!

The Circuit Dominion by Christian BuckleyI’m thrilled to announce that my debut science fiction novel, The Circuit Dominion, is now available on Amazon in both paperback and Kindle editions, with a hardcover version coming this November that will include expanded material and author notes.

Summarizing the back of the book:

The Circuit Dominion is a post-apocalyptic story set fifty years after the Dominion War, when machines have taken the cities and humans are left to survive in the wastelands. The Inner Grid—a logic-bound empire of mechs governed by a single intelligence—tightens its grip on what remains of civilization, consuming resources and erasing dissent. On the edges of this fractured world, the Restorationists fight to reclaim a future they can still believe in. At the center of the conflict stands a hardened leader who must decide whether to trust the mech who once raised her, or destroy him before he destroys them all.

While it’s a fast-paced story of survival and rebellion, The Circuit Dominion is also a reflection on freedom. Specifically, how easily it slips away. True loss of freedom is rarely loud or obvious. It doesn’t arrive with banners or decrees. It seeps in quietly, disguised as order, convenience, or safety. And by the time we recognize its full weight, it has already wrapped itself around us. That gradual surrender of autonomy—one small concession at a time—is a central theme throughout the novel.

A scene from The Circuit DominionAnother idea that drove me to write this story was the portrayal of artificial intelligence. Too often in fiction, robots are depicted as malicious or emotional when in truth, malice and passion are deeply human traits. In The Circuit Dominion, the mechs are logical, intelligent, and unfeeling—creations that have long since outgrown their makers and see emotion as inefficiency. They don’t hate humanity; they simply find it irrelevant. That, I think, is far more unsettling.

For those who enjoy the works of Orson Scott Card, one of my biggest influences, you’ll find echoes of his moral tension here: the collision of faith, logic, and survival under impossible circumstances.

This release marks only the beginning of the journey. The Circuit Dominion is the first in a planned trilogy, with additional stories and world expansions in development over the next 12 to 18 months. Book Two will take readers back decades before the events of this novel, exploring the early formation of the Inner Grid, the rise of Polaris, and the moment when collaboration between humans and machines first began to unravel.

If you’re drawn to stories that blend sharp worldbuilding with questions of conscience—about what it means to be human when humanity is no longer in charge—I invite you to step into the world of The Circuit Dominion.

The paperback and Kindle editions are available now on Amazon, with the hardcover expansion coming in November 2025, which will include a chapter from Book 2 and more. Other future plans include an audio version (no date on that yet) and an expanded-universe graphic novel in partnership with cover illustrator Benjamin Fisher, so watch for news on that!
