Got to chat with Debra at the Dec 2016 Lower Lights show in SLC

Debra Fotheringham is a luminous singer-songwriter, guitarist, percussionist, writer, and poet whose artistry feels both intimate and expansive, like a quiet fire that draws you in before you realize how brightly it’s been burning all along. Based in Salt Lake City, she has spent more than two decades weaving together threads of vulnerability, craft, and sonic grace. Her music moves effortlessly between Americana, folk, and ambient textures, anchored by a voice that can hush a crowded room or carry a song to transcendent heights. With each performance, Fotheringham gives the impression of an artist in conversation with her own heart; gentle yet unflinching, open yet meticulously composed.

Her latest studio album, Valley of Annihilation, marks the boldest turn of her career. It’s an audacious, emotionally charged journey that stretches from acoustic confessionals to cinematic soundscapes. A frequent collaborator with Grammy-nominated producer and DJ Kaskade, Fotheringham’s ethereal harmonies have rippled across electronic and pop landscapes, while her work with the beloved roots collective The Lower Lights grounds her in rich gospel and folk traditions. Her voice has graced everything from PBS documentaries to AMC dramas, Blizzard video games, and the 2025 feature film Truth & Treason. As a published poet and fiction writer, her creative world extends beyond music. Each lyric, verse, and story reflecting the same lyrical depth and searching spirit that defines her sound. Always evolving, Debra Fotheringham stands as both storyteller and sonic architect, forever exploring the spaces between silence and revelation.
